I don’t have any lambs in my neighborhood. Come to think of it, rarely do I ever see a lamb. The only time I take note of lamb is if it’s on a menu. What goes good with lamb…?
If you jump back in time to the ancient world of John 1, the image of a lamb had daily significance. A happy couple was on the way to the temple to offer a lamb at the dedication of their new son! The lamb was an integral part of the Passover Festival. When John the Baptist pointed at Jesus and said, “Look the Lamb of God!” everyone understood that he was something special! This was the Christ – the anointed – the one set apart to save the world from sin.
What’s the problem with the Lamb? So many people are not looking for spiritual solutions. How does the Lamb of God fix my car, raise my credit score, or lower my credit balance? How does the Lamb of God restore my marriage, my health, and my 401k? There is nothing wrong with the Lamb. The problem is that we can become so consumed with the daily grind of life, we can miss the real problems and the real solutions that our God offers.
There is only one thing that will matter when we stand before our God on the Last Day. Do you know the Lamb? Do you trust in Jesus, the Lamb of God, who takes away your sin. When we start there, we see that God doesn’t correct every little aspect of our life instantly, but he does promise that he won’t give us more than we can handle. God doesn’t want to fix our broken world. He wants to give us a new life in a new world, our heavenly home.
Let me introduce you to the one who takes away the sin of the world, Look the lamb of God!
