The Time In Between – A Time to Yearn for the End

The Time In Between – A Time to Yearn for the End is the third sermon in our End Times sermon series.  The verdict is in!  Jesus separates the righteous and the unrighteous.  It’s pretty simple, but there is a lot of Matthew 25 left.

The Verdict is In!

If you believe in Jesus, you’re not guilty. The rest of the text involves listing off of the good things that either people did or did not do whether they knew it or not.  Do you realize that Jesus is listing off the evidence after the verdict has been given?  That’s not how we do it, because Jesus isn’t judging us on our actions.  Our actions on Judgment Day are the proof that Jesus’ verdict was right.  With that thought in mind listen to Jesus’ defense of his verdict.  “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’  Jesus only lists off the good things that we do because he took the sins to the cross.  All that’s left is the good.  AND everything good that we did, we really did for Jesus, not the stranger that we will never meet again – not our family or friends.  We live for Jesus.  Now that you see that, live for Jesus – look for all the ways he gives you to serve him!  In a few weeks there will be opportunities galore in our church and in society to show the love of Jesus to the world and to love Jesus.

Did God Get It Wrong?

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’  Jesus only lists off the bad things that they did.  On the Last Day people will wonder, God didn’t I do all of this.  Why aren’t listing off all the good things I did during life.  You’re supposed to remember everything.  Your verdict is wrong, God – where’s the good proof?!  The writer to the Hebrews tell us – And without faith it is impossible to please God,  It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks is good.  Without faith every action done good or bad is evil God’s sight.
