Lesson 9 – The Final Result of Our Salvation

1. WHEN DO WE RECEIVE ETERNAL LIFE?

John 6:47 — He who believes has everlasting life.

When we trust in Jesus as our Savior, BOOM, we have eternal life.

2. WHY DON’T WE MORE FULLY ENJOY ETERNAL LIFE?

Hebrews 12:10 — God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.

God sends us trials to strengthen us.

1 Peter 5:8 — Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Satan is working to destroy us.

3. WHEN WILL WE EXPERIENCE THE BLESSINGS OF HEAVEN?

Philippians 1:23 — I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far.

2 Corinthians 5:8 — We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

We will experience the blessings of heaven when we leave this world to be with Jesus.

4. WHAT HAPPENS TO US WHEN WE DIE?

Ephesians 2:1 — As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.

Without the gift of eternal life, we are dead while living.

John 11:25,26 — Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”

Luke 23:43 — I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.

Our body dies and decays, but our soul keeps on living with Jesus.

5. WHEN WILL OUR BODIES BE RESTORED TO LIFE?

John 5:28,29 — A time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out — those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.

Philippians 3:20,21 — The Lord Jesus Christ…will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Mark 13:32 — No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the son, but only the Father.

2 Peter 3:10 — But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

1 Corinthians 15:51,52 — Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

Our bodies will be raised and prepared for heaven when Jesus comes again at the end of the world. Those still alive when Jesus comes back will be changed.

6. WHY SHOULDN’T WE FEAR THE FINAL JUDGMENT?

John 5:24 — Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

John 3:16-18 — For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

We have nothing to fear, for Christ has given eternal life to those who believe in him. Only unbelievers must answer to the Judge for their works.

7. WHAT WILL HEAVEN BE LIKE?

1 John 3:2 — Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

John 14:2,3 — In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Heaven will be better than anything we can imagine, and the best part is being with Jesus.

8. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE UNBELIEVER?

John 3:36 — Whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.

Matthew 13:49,50 — The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 27:46 — My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

The unbeliever will be in complete misery in hell, because God has forsaken the damned.

SUMMARY: Those who trust that Jesus died for them have eternal life. They would have perfect happiness in this world, but they are surrounded by sin and sin lives in them. Therefore their lives are touched by sorrow, until they leave this world of sin to be with Jesus. First the soul goes to heaven while the body decays. But when Jesus comes back, he will raise all the dead. Believers will live body and soul in heaven in a state of perfect and endless joy, not because they deserved it, but because Jesus died for their sins. Unbelievers, however, remain guilty of their sins and are condemned to eternal damnation in hell, where they suffer total misery with no hope of relief.
