How’s your work life? I suppose that question can take a few meanings and go a few different directions. Let’s try to go down a road. Will we ever be able to rid the world of poverty? Some of our politicians like to speak about ridding our society, but it’s not so simple. I think that Jesus speaks of this when he says, “The poor you will always have with you.”
Part of the reason that there is poverty in America and around the world is because there is sin in the world. That’s not to say that the author of this Bible study is without sin, but you can run through all that is wrong with the world, including poverty, and trace it back to sin. It’s possible that sinners can find their way in a capitalist society, but that doesn’t mean life will be a bed of roses.
King Solomon and the other writers authors of Biblical Wisdom Literature have a few common threads. The first is the thought that we need to avoid laziness in our work life. The second is that working hard is great, but that doesn’t mean we can find our fulfillment in our work. That thought runs through every area of life but for our purposes in work life it’s important to state that truth.
I suppose that begs the question, how can one find fulfillment? That answer is found only in Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus.
