Inform Your Conscience 7 – Voting is the final lesson in our election year series. The goal of the series has been to inform your conscience so that you can vote your conscience.
In the history of the world most people did not get to choose their leaders. In America we do! That’s quite the privilege and responsibility. Would it surprise you that if you look at the past three election cycles only 37% of Americans voted? Why do you think that is? Of the members of the church and community that I talk to it doesn’t matter what side of the political aisle you find yourself, almost all of them express some frustration with how we choose our leaders. There are many things about our government that are frustrating, but none of those things are a good reason to stay home in November.
Voting is important for a few reasons. The first being your love of God means that you you have the responsibility to participate in the election. God calls us to participate in our society. We let our light shine before men that they may see our good deeds and glorify our father in heaven. We have not gone over every issue – God doesn’t directly address immigration or foreign policy. In those areas he leaves the decision to you conscience and your reason. The second reason is your love for your neighbor. You neighbor needs your witness and your vote so that you might influence society. You are the salt of the earth. You can change the world and make it better.
