VIC – Genesis 41 – Joseph Rules is the final from our miniseries into four Very Important Chapters of Genesis. When we last left our intrepid dreamer he was out of the pit, spared from death, but sold to traveling gypsies who were heading for Egypt.
Any Dream Will Do
Things do improve a little. Joseph landed himself in the house of a man named Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh’s guard. From there he was cast into the dungeon after being falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife. While in the dungeon he worked! He was promoted to chief slave. That might not sound like much, in this dungeon he was exposed to some important people. Political prisoners who told him their dreams. God gave Joseph the correct interpretations, and of course, in time, they came true!
Seven Cows 2x
Nothing really changed until Pharaoh has a dream. The dream is of super fat cows – seven of them. Then there are seven thin cows. Horror upon horror the thin ones eat the fat ones!
It’s at this time Joseph’s buddy who happened to be the cup bearer for Pharaoh told the king that there was a man in the dungeon who could help. A cup bearer was a drink tester for the king. This guy takes a drink. If he falls over dead – I guess there was poison in the glass. Needless to say this was a trusted position.
One Shot – One Opportunity
Joseph gets cleaned up and as he stands before Pharaoh, he calmly explains that he cannot help. If you’ve been in an ancient dungeon, when the Pharaoh asks you if you can interpret dream, I would be tempted to say… YES! Get me out of here. I’ll explain later that it’s actually God. That’s not what Joseph does. Joe gives glory to God. Pharaoh believes Joseph and completes the cycle of a snotty dream weaving shepherd who is promoted to ruler of all Egypt.
