Passionate 2 – The Vine

Passionate 2 – The Vine is the second in our series on the Passion Readings from the Gospel of John.  It was the night that Jesus was betrayed.  There were a number of topics that Jesus hit in John 13 through 15.  We do not cover them all.  Please do reply with your questions if there is something you watched that needed further explanation.

Searching for God

Where was Jesus going?  How can we know the way to follow him?  People are searching these days, maybe not to find God.  That is where they need to end up, but they don’t know that yet.  They are searching for meaning, purpose, and fulfillment.  Happiness is often at the top of the list for people, but in vain they jump from one empty experience to another.  St. Augustine said it well, “Lord you made us for yourself.  Our hearts cannot rest until they rest in you.”

Know the Way

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.  Apart from Jesus there is no life, truth, or way to God.  In the Old Testament the patriarch Jacob was on the run.  He was at his wits end.  That night God gave him a vision of angel ascending and descending from heaven to earth.  Jacob rightly reasoned that God had not abandoned him.  We have a Bible full of God’s promises.  We don’t need visions, indeed, God has not promised them!  I bring up this story because Jesus brings it up as he was teaching the people.  He tells them that he is the stairway to God.  It is by faith in Jesus that we are right with God.  If we see Jesus, we have seen the Father!  If we know Jesus, we know the way to heaven.
