Foundations of Faith – Heaven and Hell

Foundations of Faith – Heaven and Hell takes us on a ride from the depths of hell up to the clouds of heaven.  What happens when we die?

Eternity

As you sit outside on a spring day, the breeze floats through your hair.  You’re watching the busy street, sipping your morning cup of Joe.  Is this what eternal life is all about?  There is a pause to your day in that moment.  There will be plenty to do and say.  People and problems need your attention.  But for that moment you have a chance to say a prayer and this about your eternity.

The reality for the Christian is that eternal life starts from the moment you believe that Jesus died for your sins.  Eternal life is yours right now.

How do you feel?

Life surely doesn’t always feel that way!  I don’t know about you, but most days I can feel like every little thing is dragging me down.  Why don’t I enjoy my eternal life more?  There are three reasons.

1) I am clothed in sin.  Sin lives in me.  I am my own worst enemy most days.  I know the good that I want to do, but I fail to do that all too often.  Sometimes the results are disasterous.

2) I live in a sinful world.  The days are evil, no doubt about it!  You don’t need to watch the headline feed on your phone to see that we live in a terrible world.  Most of the people in this world will not encourage me to seek out Jesus.

3) The devil hates me.  I’m the prey.  The devil is a hunter, stalking me.  He waits until I’m weak and then he pounces.  Most of the time that involves floating a temptation my way.  If and when I fail, that when he pounces!  You’re GUILTY!  No one loves you.  Surely not God.  YOU don’t even love you.

These are all lies.  Because Jesus lives, I am forgiven and will live forever.
