Foundations of Faith – The Ten Commandments

Foundations of Faith – The Ten Commandments might be a surprising lesson for you.  Did you know that not all Christians number the commandments the same way?  We’re going back to school for our tenth lesson in our Bible Information Class series.  Do you have a favorite Commandment?  What are the three uses of the Law, confirmation class?  There are plenty of directions to, but it’s this three-way fork that I would like to explore.

Curb

When it rains, how does the water know the way to the storm drain?  There is often a simple but extremely effective systems of curbs that directs the water where it needs to go.  The curb is also helpful – and damaging – to any cars that try to go off the road!  We need the curb of God’s law to keep us on the straight and narrow.

Mirror

You don’t need to worry about breaking the mirror.  Go ahead take a long look.  You probably won’t like what you see, but that’s besides the point.  You need to see as much of your sin as possible so that you can see how great your Savior is when he takes them away.  If you refuse to look, you will hear the cry of Jesus and despise what he says – thinking, I’ve been a pretty good person.  No you haven’t.  In the light of God’s holy Law, you – *we* – are disgusting.

Guide

Which way?  After the gospel has done it’s healing work the New Man is looking for ways to glorify God with his life.  Which way should we go to live a life that glorifies God?  The Law is helpful here.  We can know what God’s will is.  Just read it!
