Taboo – AND

Taboo – AND is the final lesson in the LGB of the portion of our LGBT study.  Next week we’ll finish off the series for Pride Month and cover witnessing to the transgender community.

A Tightrope

Somedays it feels like you’re walking on a tightrope. Lean too much into loving your neighbor and you’re walking away from God’s word. Lean too much into the truth of God’s word and then we’re unloving! Instead allowing people to call us OR Christians. People OR passages. Why not be AND Christians. Why can’t we love people AND what our God says? If only Jesus would give us an example to follow… HE DOES! Watch him in action.

Caught In The Act

In John 8 we find Jesus confronted by the Pharisees and the Teachers of the Law.  They brought before him a woman who was caught in the act of adultery.  The Law of Moses did command that these people be stoned to death.  (The unspoken question is – where is the guy?!  Both the man AND the woman should be subject to capitol punishment, right?)  Jesus doesn’t respond to them right away, but does start to write in the dirt with is finger.  We don’t know what he wrote but his answer will silence his critics and save a woman’s life.

Cast the Stone

Jesus encouraged the people around him without sin to cast the first stone at the woman.  What’s interesting is how the Bible describes the scene unfolding.  First it was the older crowd members who dropped their brick and walked away.  Then the younger ones.  What did the older ones know?  They were better acquainted with their sin.  They had more time to feel the guilt on their souls.  The older you get the more spiritual scarred you become.  That doesn’t mean you don’t understand grace – exactly the opposite.  You God’s grace by experience.

What about Jesus?  He was perfect.  Would he be the one to cast the first stone?  Watch this week’s lesson from our series, Taboo – AND.
