Foundations of Faith – Public Worship

Foundations of Faith – Public Worship brings us into the presence of the Almighty God.  Are you ready to come to public worship?

When we come to worship God there are a number of things that happen.

God Shows Up

We have a promise from God that where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.  Yes, that means God shows up in public worship.  Coming into the presence of our Holy God could be intimidating, but this is something the Christian craves.  That brings us to the transaction that happens in worship.

Shout Aloud

The Old Testament song book of the Psalms is full of hymns of praise.  God wrote his people the songs that he wanted to hear.  How cool is that?!  We look forward to the opportunity to come to God in worship.  We give God our songs, our sin, our prayers, and our gifts.  There is so much there!  The most important in that list is our sin.  While it’s true that God hates sin, we need to give our sin and guilt to God or else it will destroy us.

Tis Better to Receive

I know the phrase is backwards – God wants us to be generous after all, but when it comes to public worship the one thing that is needed is the gospel of Jesus.  When God’s people come into his presence he doesn’t destroy us!  Our holy God would have every right to do that.  Instead he calls us to himself that he might give us forgiveness.  He gives us a peace that transcends all understanding.  He gives us his very body and blood in the Sacrament of the Altar.  He gives us a flood that doesn’t wash away dirt; it washed away sin with his incredible promises.
