Foundations of Faith – Trinity

Foundations of Faith – Trinity might seem like a simple topic.  Of course we know who our three-in-one god is!  The challenge is seeing just how many other gods there are in the world.

The God of War

Imagine, if you will, an idol 140 feet tall, made up of 350 tons of steel, 1,550 cubic meters of concrete, and more than 300 liters of gold paint.  That’s right out of Rach, Shack, and Benny!  These people take the worship of their god very seriously.  Murugan isn’t even one of the most important gods in the Hindu Pantheon, yet he gets a great deal of attention.  There are plenty of other examples of pagan worship around the world.

Come To Worship

As you walk into public worship, I praise God that we have a beautiful sanctuary where we can worship God.  Does it ever feel that in our synod, our congregation, our institutionalized religion – does it ever feel that God isn’t real?  I pray not!  Our God is extremely real.  He speaks to us in his word.  We sing his praises and speak to him in prayer.  He graciously answers us according to his will.

Are You Christian?

It’s not difficult to tell the difference between Murugan and Jesus.  The Triune God isn’t in direct competition with Buddha.  When we speak of pagans, these are faiths that have nothing to do with the worship of the triune God, Father, Son, and Spirit.  It’s not had to “mark and avoid” Murugan worship.  I doubt that temptation has ever crossed your mind.  However, there are cults in our cities and neighborhoods.  These faiths speak about some of the things that Jesus did to a lesser or greater degree, but they deny Jesus’ divinity.  These would be the Mormons, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Islam.
