VIC – Exodus 4 takes us through the call of Moses. I had this picture in my head of an incredible leader ascending to his rightly position of power when he walked up to the burning bush. That’s not exactly how it happened.
Slow to Speak
If you were raised in the court of Pharaoh, do you think you could say your own name? Maybe this education was exactly what Moses needed, but how could he have known that God would not call him before the age of 80. Moses knew that he was different. Being weened no earlier than 5 or 6 years of ages ensured that he knew his native tongue and more importantly that he knew his Savior.
Murder
When Moses was 40 years old he thought that God was calling him to rescue Israel from the hand of their slave drivers. He saw a slave driver abusing one of his countrymen and he acted. He was probably tired of standing on the sidelines watching the slavery of his people unfold. He thought God was calling him – 40 years before the burning bush – to lead his people out of slavery. That wasn’t the case. God’s people weren’t interested in leaving, not at least under Moses direction.
No God
Whether it was murder or stage fright, how many people in the Bible do you know who told God – no thanks?! Moses was in no hurry to go back to Egypt. There was probably a bounty on his head – even after 40 years! In this country there is no statute of limitation on murder. I’m not well verse in Egyptian laws but it wouldn’t surprise me if Moses was still a wanted man.
