Evangelism – Getting People Interested

Evangelism – Getting People Interested is a conversation starter.  How can you begin a spiritual conversation?  Jesus simply asked for a drink of water.

Not Interested

Bill wasn’t interested in my church.  No matter how many times I invited him to different events or worship services, Bill simply wasn’t going to come.  And that’s ok!  Bill was a dear friend.  Our circles of friends changed and it was two years before I saw Bill again, but when I did, he had some exciting news for me.  “I joined a church!  In fact this month they made me an elder.”  My reaction wasn’t irritation that he rejected me and my church, it was joy that through some group of Christians he had found his Savior Jesus.

How Much

When people come to me and ask about my church and what we teach, I will tell them as much as they can handle.  I will happily share the whole counsel of my God.  One of the questions I get is how much information does someone need to know before he or she can be a Christian?  I think that you would need to know Jesus.  Not just to know, because there are all kinds of people who know Jesus.  But to trust in him as your Savior.  That sounds like a tall order because it is!  The peace that we have is that faith isn’t something that you dig deep to create.  It is a gift from God the Spirit.  He goes with his word to create faith in the heart of those hear the gospel.  This is where the question comes full circle.  WHAT do we need to tell folks?!  I start with sin and grace.  Law and gospel.  You are a broken failure who needs something only Jesus can supply.  Know that Jesus took your place when he died.  You’re forgiven.
