Taboo – What Makes Marriage Work

Taboo – What Makes Marriage Work is a positive look at God’s plan for husbands and wives.  Can you imagine a marriage that lasted 60 years? Was there a time when that was normal? With all that is wrong with marriage in our culture, let’s take a moment to talk about what is right. God’s plan for marriage is good. We benefit if we study what our God says about marriage.

Love Your Wives

This is almost embarrassing that God would have to focus on husbands loving their wives.  That’s the one thing that should be a given, right?  Apparently that’s the one thing husbands need to work on.  The example might be crippling.  Husbands love with the divine love that Jesus showed when he gave up his life for the church.  This means that the love doesn’t depend on the wife.  It’s all-in love no matter what.  A Christina husband doesn’t say I don’t love you anymore.  This is why divorce is such a violent acts.  What God has joined together should never be separated.

Submit to Your Husbands

Not quite as obvious in my opinion is the command to submit.  This has a bad connotation in our society.  I put my brothers in a submission hold as a child (because they deserved it 😜).  That’s not what we’re talking about in marriage.  A wife’s submission for her husband is based on how the church submits to Christ in everything.  This isn’t had for the Christian because Jesus loves us!  He gave up everything so that we might be his forever.  This kind of love changes our view of submission.  A wife will happily place herself under her husband’s leadership for the sake of Jesus.
