My Easter Witness – Atheists is for those people who say there is no God. The truth is that they have a God. Everyone does. Your God is the most important person, place, or thing in your life! So what does church look like for someone who doesn’t believe there is a God? You would celebrate humanity in all of it’s glory. That doesn’t necessarily lead to a good place, of course. Atheism doesn’t have an answer to guilt, suffering (see the third lesson), the origin of life or what happens after death.
The real question is – What should we say to witness to an Atheist? First know that there is nothing wrong with your faith. One of the resources on the list below is a book called I don’t have enough faith to be an Atheist. Richard Dawkins a well-known Atheist has famously said that he would be good with intelligent design assuming that aliens planted life here on earth 🤨. I think it takes as much faith to believe that aliens dropped life here as it does to believe what the Bible says about God.
The last thing I will say on the topic is to remember that the gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. When you talk to an Atheist, talk about sin and grace! Talk about guilt and how Jesus takes that guilt and sin away. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts a heart and creates live giving faith in the heart of everyone – including the Atheist.
