False Security CRUSHED

Can anyone name this geyser?  Yes, this has been called the most predictable geographical feature on Earth erupting almost exactly every 91 minutes.  Eruptions can last up to five minutes and the geyser spews boiling water into the air to a maximum height of 185 feet.  Old Faithful is called that because you can depend on boiling water shooting out of the ground every hour and a half or so.  Even more consistent is our God.  God is faithful.  He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.  That sounds great, but it’s not good enough, is it?  Even though God is faithful, I’m not.  Does it make you feel better when you sin knowing that God rearranged the cosmos so that you might have a way out, only you were too lazy or careless to take advantage of it?  No.  That can make it worse.

Know this – all those people who were 20 years and older may not have made it into the Promised Land of Canaan, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t make it too the Promised Land of Heaven.  Look beyond your failures and the failures of God’s people.  Look to Jesus’ trip to the cross where he didn’t blaze a trail for us to follow, he carried our sins that they might never be charged against us.  Look in the empty tomb where death was broken.  The resurrected Lord turned the phrase dirt nap from a cruel joke to a whimsical reality!  Jesus frees us to look for the way out of temptation not because we might be list forever if we fail, but because when we succeed we give all the glory to him.  It is this focus on the gospel that leaves our false security CRUSHED.  Want to hear more?  Watch this week’s message taken from 1 Corinthians 10.
