Come See The Mountain

Come and see the mountain!  Now you might be thinking – this is all happening too fast!  This morning did you open up your bulletin and think, is it Advent already?  It isn’t even December yet!  Christmas is just around the corner.  At Christmas time we celebrate the coming of Jesus the Savior of the world.  In fact the word advent is means coming.  For our sermon series this year we’ll look at some of the ways that Jesus comes to us.  Here is a video to help point us in the right direction.

Dear friends come see the mountain – it’s popular!  Isaiah explains in his second chapter:  All nations will stream to it.  Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

This week I picked up a couple deals for our church – they were online.  The stores weren’t packed.  I went to pick them up without incident.  I think I might have been the only one who enjoyed it.  I love the chaos of a crowd.  But I’m old enough to remember when people stood in lines outside of a store and when the doors opened at 5 AM people streamed in to get that $2 toaster.

As popular as those great deals were at the stores, they don’t compare to what people will find at the mountain of the Lord.  All nations will stream to it!  Only on the mountain will people find the gospel – the good news that Jesus has removed the debt we’ve built up through a lifetime of sin sprees.  He gives us door busters!  The gates of hell will not stand against the march of the gospel.  Sin darkened hearts will see the light of the Son of God.  Instant savings on trips to heaven the moment we believe Jesus died for our sins.
