A Real Christmas – Remembering Why Christ Came is the first in our new Advent series. I think that all of us get a little excited when we turn the corner from Thanksgiving and it’s December. Is it the most wonderful time of the year? Why? Did you grow up with core memories of the holiday season? There is something wonderful about our American culture that surrounds Christmas – now it’s not ALL wonderful, I’m looking forward to sorting through all of that with you starting next week in our after worship Bible study, and American Christmas.
Core Memories
Even if you didn’t have great memories as a child growing up, if you have children, you want them to have these wonderful core memories of Christmas. I want to show you the intro video for this sermon series.
Advent Means Coming
This year we’re going to talk about how children of all ages can have a Real Christmas. It starts with Advent. Advent is a Latin word that simply means coming. Who’s coming for dinner? How would you prepare? Maybe tidy up the place a bit. The season of Advent is a season of preparation of the soul – you prepare you heart so that you are ready to celebrate the birth of God as Christmas.
You Are Blameless and Holy
1 Thessalonians 3:13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
There isn’t really any questions here about what will happen. Remember a faith the size of a mustard seed and move a mountain. The size of your faith doesn’t really matter. What matters is the object of that faith.
Or to use the minefield example, Jesus promises that nothing, no illness, no sin, nothing will separate you from his love. You KNOW there are no mines back there. You can tiptoe through the field of life saying a prayer with each step or you can confidently waltz through life letting your Savior usher you beautifully into heaven.
