A Top Down Faith – Through All The Storms of Life

A Top Down Faith – Through All The Storms of Life reminds us that in this world we will have trouble.  The important thing to remember is that we never face that trouble alone.

Job had asked the question why me? Why now?  God doesn’t really attempt to answer Job.  He doesn’t even address the problems Job was facing.  God knew that Job was sinning.  True he had been through a lot, but his attitude was clearly sinful.  We fail miserably when we try to compare ourselves to God.  God changes our attitude of defiance to one of repentance and that’s what happened to Job.  After God was through with him, Job had changed his tune.  He says, 42:6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.

We haven’t experienced anywhere near the sadness the Job endured.  If Job not only didn’t have a case but repented of his defiant attitude towards God, how much more don’t we deserve the tongue lashing in our text?  Who do we think we can question the Almighty?  Instead our attitude is to be that of Job’s, we despise ourselves and repent in dust and ashes.  We stand before God as beggars.  That is exactly what God wants us to realize.  Until we see that we are nothing spiritually, we will be tempted to attack God when life starts to rain and pour its troubles our way.

I began reminding you exactly who was speaking to Job.  The same God who spoke out of the storm is the same God who gave his first cry in a feed trough.  The same God who unleashed the waters of the deep in the Great Flood and wrapped them up as simply as baby in a blanket is the same God who called little children to come to his knee.  This is the faithful God of the covenant of grace.  The same God who unleashed the flood of his wrath on his Son is the same God who spared us from the fiery torments of hell.  Jesus took our place.  2 Corinthians says it beautifully.  God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.  The same God who laid the foundation of the earth is the same God who has prepared a home for us in heaven.
