Because He Lives – See Clearly

Because He Lives – See Clearly is a sermon on the portion of Scripture where the disciples get to enjoy a breakfast with Jesus.  Or was it…  Peter jumped into the lake and swam to shore after just seeing one of two miraculous catches of fish.  Let’s review some details about Peter.

Peter The First

Peter was the first to jump out of the boat and walk on water.

Peter was the first to tell Jesus, you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Peter was the first to pull out his sword and defend Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Peter wasn’t the first to fall, to sin horribly, to let Jesus down.  When Peter said for the whole world to hear that he would never deny or fall away or leave Jesus and then fail so miserably when the first servant girl carrying water walked by, his guilt must have been overwhelming.  We know that something more needed to be said between Jesus and Peter because John records that exchange for us right after this text.

Reconciliation

This isn’t uncommon.  Something happens between two friends.  There is a division, a disagreement.  I was about to say you have no idea how often I see this.  But I bet you do.  You know what it’s like to lose a friend, all of us do.  How do you reconcile?  How do you do that when that friend is your God?  Who makes the first move?  God made the first move.  He did that in Jesus.

Easter means that no problem that you have with God is so great that it won’t be made right.  The worst thing that can happen is that God might take away someone you love.

Easter means you will see that person again, not suffering, or sick, but in glory.

Easter means that the problems you face are still real, but you have a living God who keeps his promises who can see you through any problem you are facing.  Relationships, money, school, work, you don’t face those problems alone.
