We are One in Christ as a family. Yes, it is the family that we considered on Sunday. The family is the basic building block of society. This is God’s design. We spent some time in the children’s message talking about the roll that kids can play in a family. For our message we looked at the three people in a marriage.
The first and most often missed person is Jesus. Jesus isn’t just the example for all that we do in life he is also the reason, the motivation. Consider Jesus’ words from Mark 10, For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
For the rest of our blog post I would like to focus on husbands. What does this look like? This is not the warm fuzzies that you get when you look at a person of the opposite sex. This isn’t chocolates and a card on Valentines day. This is the love of choice. This is a self-sacrificing unconditional love. Guys this has nothing to do with how submissive your wife is. This doesn’t matter if she respects you or loves you in return. This is a present, non-stop, continual action verb. A husband’s love shines and stretches till death. Think I went a little overboard? Listen once more to Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
Every Lent we go through the passion account when everyone abandoned Jesus. The church hated him. This is where Jesus loves shines! Still today the beauty of the gospel is that it is intended for sinners. The love of a husband is the same love of Jesus. A Christian husband can’t stop loving.
