Places of the Passion – Courtyard is the third location of the Passion of our Lord we will be studying. The courtyard of the high priest is a place of denial. Peter never woke up that day planning on denying his Lord and Savior. In fact just hours before his denial he promised that even if everyone else denied Jesus, Peter never would. I don’t think he was insincere. I think he put his faith in the wrong place. We let ourselves down all the time! Jesus will never let us down.
The Missing Day
There was a small news item in the paper two years ago. It concerned the Marshall Islands, a republic of 100 small islands in the Pacific divided by the International Date Line. The government announced to the local residents that when they went to bed on August 20, they would wake up on August 22. The Republic of the Marshall Islands decided that all of the islands should be on the same side of the international date line. And so August 21 was completely eliminated.
Can One of Your Days Vanish
Do you think Peter might have wished for something like that—to have that one day, the day of his terrible denial of the Savior, completely eliminated, torn out of the calendar and thrown away? Well, it was. Through the blood of Christ, God no longer held that day against him. And that is not just true for Peter, but for all of us. Not just Peter’s one day and one sin, but all the sins of all people committed by them every day throughout their whole lifetime, yours and mine included, have been forgiven and forgotten by God. Jesus loves us! He died for us! He’s our Savior, and because of him, you and I are God’s beloved children forever!
