Say It Out Loud – Trinity

Say It Out Loud – Trinity start us down the path of a new summer sermon series.  We’re looking at different reasons to confess our faith.  Trinity Sunday with the Athanasian Creed is a great opportunity for God’s people!

The Unthinkable

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,  Think the unthinkable for a moment with me.  What if eternal life was not ours?  What if we were still in our sins?  What if Jesus had not died for us?  Would God love you?  Actually there would be no love.  Even before Jesus came into the world the promise of the Savior had existed since the fall into sin.  God’s love had always been there.  Without Jesus, God would hate us.  He would have no choice.  Or as Paul said in his first letter to the Corinthian congregation, if Christ has not been raised we are to be pitied more than all men.  BUT Christ has been raised.  The Word of God made flesh is the living act of love, and now everything, the sun, the rain, technology, arts and fashion – the fact that God allows this fatally damaged world to continue is proof of his patient love that wants no one to be damned, but all be to saved.  How dearly God loves us.

Brought Together

And so he brings us together through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.  Brothers and sister, saints of God, the fellowship we enjoy is Spirit given.  Trinity Sunday is a difficult one for the preacher because very quickly all logic I can use to explain our God falls on its face.  We don’t worship three God’s, but one who reveals himself as three persons.  We end every worship service with the name of the triune God so that you remember who he is and who you are – you bear the name and image of the divine.
