The Beginning of the End – Put Your Affairs In Order

The Beginning of the End – Put Your Affairs In Order reminds us that we aren’t in heaven yet.  Yes, lift up your eyes, people of God.  Your redemption is drawing near.  As we wait for our Lord Jesus we have work to do.

Would You Floss

Earlier this summer I went to the dentist with my five children.  I went first.  I’m happy to say – no cavities.  I usually get a lecture that I haven’t flossed my teeth enough.  I really should floss more, but I don’t.  You should floss more too.  Did you know that my dad flosses his teeth after every, I mean every meal.  I wish I could be more like him.  I really should floss more.  This week I’ll try to floss more, do you want know why?  I’ll tell you why.  So that the dentist doesn’t lecture me, and because I know I can do it; my dad did.  Do you think I’ll keep flossing my teeth this week?  Maybe… I can almost guarantee that I won’t.  I really should floss, but I don’t like doing it.  I don’t like lectures from the dentist, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference, so why bother?

Sanctified Flossing

This sermon isn’t about flossing, but it is about sacrifice, but we have to take a moment to talk about your motivation for life and how you live.  We live, not in fear of our dentist and gingivitis, we don’t live in fear of our God either, no, we live in view of God’s mercy.  You don’t have to floss, you want to because the dentist just paid off your mortgage and gave your kids a free ride through college.  In view of God’s mercy we live our lives as sacrifices.
