The Easter Difference – Live For Him

The Easter Difference – Live For Him brings us to the final Sunday in the Easter season.  We live for God.  That changes how we view the world.

Trip To The Market

Paul as usual went to the synagogue first – to the Jews – people who were waiting and looking for the promised Savior, but Paul didn’t stop there.  After Saturday worship – during the week – he would go through the market place and street corners talking with people – preaching and witnessing his faith.  He’s waiting for Timothy to show up.  There’s no harm with talking to a few people…  This philosopher’s court got wind of Paul’s new idea and asked him to speak.  Our text picks up his message.

Just a Pinch

That’s Zeus – you walk past all kinds of idols and you dropped a pinch of incense and a five spot.  You lived in fear everyday of you life because you didn’t want to make the gods angry.  There was a god for actuaries, one for accountants, one for computer programmers.  You would cover your basis.  And so Paul walks up to the altar to an unknown god and just shakes his head.

Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.

Very Religious

In America, do you think that we’re very religious?  I think that our idols have changed.  I have met neopagans, there is a resurgence as we get farther away from being a Christian culture.  We should say – An idol is anything that has reached the most important thing in your life.
