The Perfect Christmas Gift can be hard to find. But don’t think that you can use AI to narrow your search. God has the details prepared a couple thousand years ago in the book of Titus.
What Do I Need
Every year around November, I dread the question, “What do you want for Christmas?” or, “What do you need for Christmas?” I don’t know. I don’t really need anything. I’m fine. There may be some things that are nice to have, but I can get along just fine without them. If pressed, I’ve been known to throw out the gift that is beyond their reach –like Minnesota Viking season tickets and the airfare to see all the games.
When it comes to what we need for Christmas, God knows what you need. You may not like to think about it, but God knows exactly what you need because he knows everything about you. He knows how well, or should I say how poorly we have followed his plan for our lives. Oh I think we’re generally good folks even though we occasionally do things that aren’t the nicest. But what we think about ourselves isn’t necessarily how God sees it. God knows and sees all, and he demands perfect obedience – all the time. If we fail, if we slip just once into ungodliness and worldly passions, later he mentions wickedness – even a little thought then we’ve gone against God who once told Adam and Eve, disobey me and you will surely die. He says this to us too.
• Your greatest need isn’t how to pay the Christmas credit card bills that are waiting for you in January.
• It’s not how you will get the passing grade in school.
God Knows My Needs
This issue is: Who will rescue me from my sins? Who can rescue me from the shame and guilt I feel for 2025? Who will help me with the hurt, the pain, the fear? Who knows my real needs? God knows and this is good! God knew you would need a Savior way before you did. God acted and gave his Son Jesus to you before you were even born. I didn’t mean to drop a bomb on anyone’s Christmas, but surely you didn’t think Christmas isn’t about Rudolf and candy canes. It’s about Jesus perfectly meeting your greatest need. If you were tracking right along with me when I said, “I don’t really need anything for Christmas.” You’re not that far off, because you have Jesus.
