Undivided Attention – One Thing Needed

Undivided Attention – One Thing Needed is exciting!  Guess who’s coming over for dinner?  God!  What can we do to get ready?

Come Lord Jesus

Jesus is coming over for dinner, but it’s important to remember that when God walks into the room the most important thing to do is to receive whatever he wants to give to us.  Jesus is our host!

Worried and Upset

Consider Jesus’ words once more.  41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,  Jesus knows that the meat will be dry; he doesn’t care.  He knows that the house isn’t spotless; he’s not there to see the house, but his two good friends.  Did you know that Scripture says he loved these women – do you know that he loves you?  He knows everything.  What is it that you are worried and upset about?

  • Do you have bills? Jesus knows your credit score.  He knows all about bills and debts.  He promises that you will have enough.  That might mean we have bitten off more than we can chew or afford when it comes to things.
  • Is your marriage hard work? God created marriage.  Follow his plan, living and reflecting his love to your spouse.
  • Do you not have enough time in the day? This is a sermon text about being too busy after all.  Summer time can be cruel because during the school year we are so busy that we lie to ourselves and say during the summer, I’ll have more time.  When the truth is, unless you are too young for a job, you actually have LESS time during the summer.  God in his wisdom gives us only 24 hours each day.  Each day is a gift of his grace.  His mercy is new every morning.

Just One Thing

What is difficult for us is that Martha wasn’t doing anything wrong per se.  She had her priorities a little mixed up.  We get so busy and worried and upset, that we miss the one thing needful.  Kind of like going out to eat and forgetting the burger.  We work and work and work at making our lives and the lives of those we love complete only to miss the one thing we really need, God’s word.
