What Makes Christians Different – Wheat Among Weeds

What Makes Christians Different – Wheat Among Weeds brings us to the Last Days.  Who doesn’t like a weed free law, garden, or flower patch?  With that in mind there is a temptation to see the world the same way.  Jesus stops us and says… 29 ‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them.

Heartbreaking

It is heartbreaking that some people don’t believe in Jesus.  It is horrible to think that some unbeliever might tempt one of my children and draw them away from my faith.  However, it is spiritually reckless to write off anyone from the kingdom of God.  What is the only way I can tell the children of God from the unbelievers?  Or think back, how did the servants tell the weeds from the wheat?  26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.  Only after the fruit of the plants appeared could they tell what was fit for the fire and what was good.  When you walk down the street and you see people, how do you know who is a Christian and who isn’t?  You don’t.  You can’t judge hearts.  How horrible that we would ever consider doing so.  What about the people that you meet and get to know?  The Atheist on the plane.  God says in Psalm 53, The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”  How do I know if God won’t use my witness to him to create faith and make that weed part of the wheat of his kingdom?  I don’t.

Growing Together

Listen to Jesus’ advice 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”  You and I are servants not harvesters.  Jesus tells us in his explanation of the parable that the angels are the harvesters.  Last week we remembered that our job is to cast the seed yelling – Oh, what of that?!  And what of that!  Tell everyone who is vertical and taking nourishment.  The angels longed to see how God would spread the gospel; the privilege is ours.
