Wounds That Heal – Serving Two Masters

Wounds That Heal – Serving Two Masters is the first in our two-week stewardship program. The theme of the service this morning is that you can’t serve two masters. The direct application in our text is God and money. I think we have to talk about another angle.

Death Defeated

You have probably heard that Charlie Kirk was assassinated this week while speaking on a campus in Utah. Charlie had many political views that go beyond what we’re talking about, but what I can say is that he was a fierce Christian. Just a couple days before he died, Charlie posted this on social media – Jesus defeated death so you can live. I believe Charlie is with Jesus.

Victory Won

There are plenty of people who are angry. Christians don’t really do that. God doesn’t need you to defend him. Put your sward away. He’s the only one who fought the battle.  He already won the victory. We forgive. We love our enemies. We pray for those who persecute us. I will say that if you think someone who has different ideas than you is worthy of death, that’s scary. We have the charge to love everyone in Jesus. That’s why we love our neighbor.  On this two masters Sunday don’t let hate dominate your life.  If it is, unplug. Talk to your neighbor.

It’s not your money

In the parable of the shrewd manager the man’s behavior is not moral or honest, but it is shrewd – this is the point of the whole parable.  Why was the man able to be so lose with the gifts? Didn’t it seem easy for him to change the debts of the customers? Why do you think that is? It’s not his money. Do you think you’re going to be more careful with your money or someone else’s? We’ll go through this carefully, but the overarching point is that it’s not your money. YOU can be generous, leverage your gifts for the kingdom of God, yes all the while being shrewd because it’s not your money. It never was. The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.
