You Will Live Forever – Courageous Witness

You Will Live Forever – Courageous Witness is the first message in our End Times sermon series.  You’re going to live forever! How does that work for your witness. On this Festival of the Reformation we took a look at what fears Martin Luther had to face down and what fears we might be looking at in 2024. Live a life of Courageous Witness.

The Eternal Gospel

Revelation 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people

The eternal Gospel…  Gospel simply means good news.  Have you heard any good new lately?  Are your children healthy?  Did your favorite team win?  Have you found a new job?  Do you know someone who is recently engaged or expecting?  All good news, but eternal good news?  So often good news doesn’t last or can even disappoint.

Hard to Believe

On October 14th Linda Brown came up to a Burlington Coat Factory in a Hummer Limo.  She got out and told all who would listen that she had just won $1.5 million dollars and would be willing to pay for everyone’s purchase up to $500.  Good news?  You better believe it.  One person said they didn’t need any clothes, but instead help with the rent.  No problem!  She wrote out a check on the spot!  Within minutes the store was full of 500 people and a line of 1000 stretched around the building.  Storeowners became suspicious when the woman drove off to get more money and didn’t return.  Then a riot started in the store because even though the good news had run out – the people still wanted their stuff.  That’s when police came in and did a fine job of stopping the riot before it got out of control.  And after the limousine driver realized he wasn’t going to get paid either, he dropped Linda Brown off for the police.

I can completely see why people are skeptical when they hear you, me or even Martin Luther say that there is an eternal gospel.  This is good news that never ends.  That doesn’t exist in this veil of tears.  Jesus died for everyone’s sins including mine and yours.  Can you see why Paul calls this eternal good news a mystery in his letters to the early Christian church.  Can you see how this is truly God’s hour – sure the hour of judgment, but the hour of his mercy is why we fear, love and trust in him above all things.
