You Will Live Forever – Eyes on the Skies

You Will Live Forever – Eyes on the Skies is the final message in our End Times sermon series.  One day – on the Last Day – Christ the King will return to end the world.  We look forward to that day.  Until then we consider the Kingdom of God.

Visible Presence of God?

Some people have called the church God’s visible presence on earth.  That’s maybe true, but can you think of some problems with this?  Do you like what the “church” is doing around the world?  We don’t have to look too closely to get disappointed.  We want the church to be pure, but that’s not possible this side of the grave.  The church is full of sinners.  Jesus warned us that there will be false prophets, wolves that will come and try to scatter God’s flock.  For all of these struggles that the church faces, God still knows who are in his church.  When we confess in the creed after the sermon that we believe in the Holy Christian Church, what we are talking about isn’t Star of Bethlehem, but all Christians around the world no matter what the denomination.  God knows all those who believe in Jesus.

One Purpose

This church has one purpose.  That purpose is to tell others about Jesus.  That’s it.  There are other auxiliary purposes – God does want us to let our light shine before men that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.  Jesus said that people would recognize us as Christians by how we love each other.  The problem is that there are whole church bodies that call themselves Lutheran or Baptist or Pentecostal or any other Christian denomination whose purpose is to make the world a better place.  They have jumped out of the kingdom of God and into the kingdom of the earth.  People may love them for doing this; they’ll be popular, but they have forgotten their purpose.  There are many organizations whose sole purpose is to make the world a better place.  There is nothing wrong with that.  But that is not the purpose of the church.  If we and other Christians don’t tell others about the love of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, who will?  Never forget your purpose – it’s so unique.
