Total dependence doesn’t sound like a great idea in our ear. We like to be SELF dependent. The Rich Young Ruler was looking for an 11th Commandment when he came to Jesus. What he found was a loving God who crushed his sinful pride.
Hard Truth – Money Fails in Death
Last week we learned the hard truth that while money can help make life easier in some ways, it cannot bring true happiness and fulfillment. This week we see that as much as money lets us down in life, its ultimate failure to deliver on its promises happens in death.
Focused on Freedom
This past week our nation was focused on freedom. The celebration of the 4th of July is filled with fun traditions! Parades showcasing our society, the rockets red glare from a firework display, and a BBQ cookout. We love freedom. Why would anyone throw that away. This is what the Apostle Paul was faced with in the early Christian church of Galatia.
All Things Well
Jesus has done all things well. He doesn’t make accommodations for our sin and guilt, he paid for them when he died on the cross.
The Only Bread of Life
The Bread of Life discourse from John 6 doesn’t end well to our eyes for Jesus. Many walk away. Jesus is the only way to heaven. Join us this Sunday as we close out the series of Gospel readings with a message – Only Jesus is the Bread of Life.
The Church Forgives
“One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With ev’ry grace endued…” What does it look like to forgive someone? That might be an easy question, until the hurt hits close to home. This Sunday we’ll consider Jesus command to forgive. We have the perfect example in Jesus. More importantly we have the perfect motivation when we look at how he forgave us.
